A cable machine, or rooter, spins a steel cable with a cutting head down the line. It punches through blockages and cuts roots, and it is fast, cheap and effective for a straightforward clog. What it does not do is clean the pipe wall.

Hydro jetting uses high pressure water through a specialised nozzle to scour the full inside diameter of the pipe, pulling grease, scale and root mass back toward the cleanout. It genuinely restores the line to full bore, which cable work does not, and it is the right tool for grease in a kitchen line or heavy root mass.

Jetting is not always the right choice, and any company that offers it for every job is selling equipment rather than solving a problem. High pressure water into a deteriorated clay tile or a corroded cast iron line can open up the failure rather than clear the blockage. That is why a camera inspection should come before jetting on any older Wichita property.

The honest sequence is inspect, then choose. Cable for a simple blockage in sound pipe, jetting for grease and roots in a line that will take it, and repair when the camera shows the pipe itself has gone.
