A sump pump is the difference between a dry Kansas basement and a wet one during heavy rain. Sizing matters more than brand: the pump has to move water faster than it arrives, and the discharge run has to carry it far enough from the foundation that it does not simply return.
Discharge is where most installations go wrong. A line that terminates two feet from the wall recirculates water back into the drain tile, and one piped into the sanitary sewer adds stormwater to a system not sized for it, which is prohibited in many jurisdictions.
Battery backup is worth considering here, because the storm that overwhelms the drain tile is frequently the same storm that takes out the power.
Technician insight
Test yours by pouring a bucket into the pit. A pump that has not run in months can be seized, and you find out during the storm otherwise.
