Basement floor drains are the lowest opening in a Wichita house's drainage system, which means they are where everything relieves when something goes wrong upstream. They are also the drain nobody thinks about until that happens.
Floor drains have a trap that needs water in it to hold back sewer gas. In a basement that stays dry, that trap evaporates and the smell comes up. Pouring a bucket of water down an unused floor drain a few times a year solves it entirely.
Where a floor drain backs up, the question is whether the blockage is in the drain itself or whether the main is surcharged. Those need very different responses and the camera separates them quickly.
